Working your way into that "impossible" pose

So Spring has made it's way to Chicago...

For many yogis, there's that one particular pose that you might think is "impossible." For some it's head stand, others dancer's pose, the list goes on...for me, Crow pose at one point was one of those "impossible" poses for me.

One of the most amazing things happened because I was able to hold crow pose for the first time without any assistance (from a block, assist, etc.) so it was really exciting to just have that moment. I think back to this time last year when I was still going through teacher training for yoga & how I initially was terrified of the thought of teaching a vinyasa class. I figured how in the world am I going to be able to teach someone how to get into crow pose if I can't do it myself? Well the more I continued to practice the easier it has become..before today I would use the assistance of a block to help get me into the pose, but today I was feeling a bit adventurous so I thought to myself why not give it a whirl and see if I can pop into it!

Bakasana Crow Pose
One of the awesome things about crow pose is that it is a foundational pose for arm balances...(so at some point I'd like to work my way into headstands).

Benefits of the pose:
  • Cultivates upper body strength (lots of core strength)
  • Cultivates balance
  • The inversion reverses blood flow & calms your central nervous system
  • Stimulates confidence (yay!)
  • Reignites energy

Also an update on surfing in California...
After nosediving on my first run & crashing under the waves...I was able to stand up on my board and catch a wave...even if it was just for a second. ;) I'm looking forward to going back and trying it again! =)

Yoga Sculpt Teacher Training was just one of the steps of my yogi journey, but it definitely changed my life ever since. I would have never even dreamed three years upon moving to Chicago that this would be what I am doing now, but I couldn't be happier. Currently I'm reading "Living Your Yoga"and I really like how she explains "What is Yoga?"
    • "Yoga helps us to remove all obstructing mental clouds, so that we may come to enjoy the sunshine within. It's an extensive program of reeducation through which we learn, step by step, to live in the light of our true nature. Only when we have truly found ourselves will be able to live in peace, harmony, & happiness in the world."
One of my favorite quotes is that "Life isn't about finding yourself; life is about creating yourself." So although you might not have everything figured out, it's about taking each day and appreciating that moment...living in the present moment.
